Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you're new to nutrition counseling, or just new to me, I've answered some of my frequently asked questions (FAQs) below to make the process easier.

Where will we meet for sessions?

We can meet in office on Tuesdays or we can meet virtually via our HIPAA compliant platform.

Office Location & Parking

Address: 2243 Main Ave. Suite 17, Durango, CO 81303

Parking: There is a free parking lot on the south side of the building with reserved spots-please park in spaces designated for clients of Libby Bloom, RDN or Durango Family Therapy. Ample street parking is also available. There is a ramp on the west side of the building.

Entering the building: The office is on the second floor, Suite 17. Upon entering the building, take the stairs to the second level. From the top of the stairs, go right, continue down the hall, then go down a couple of steps-Suite 17 will be on your right. Please note that although there are stairs and an elevator to the second floor, there are a few steps to enter the office.

Do you take insurance?

The Crooked Carrot is in network with Aetna. If we do not accept your insurance, we are happy to provide you with a superbill for you to submit to your insurance to receive potential reimbursement or discuss sliding scale options.

What is the cost of sessions if I'm not using insurance?

If The Crooked Carrot Nutrition is not an in-network provider with your insurance plan, you are responsible for payment at the time of service. We accept credit cards, debit cards, FSA cards, HSA cards and bank debits. Sessions are 55 minutes and rates are $145 for a 55-minute initial or follow-up session.

If The Crooked Carrot is an in-network provider with your insurance plan, nutrition counseling may be fully covered by your insurance benefits. Sometimes, you may owe a co-pay or co-insurance for each visit, may have to reach a deductible, or may have a limited number of visits covered per year. Verifying your benefits using the script above will give you some clarity on this.

Sliding scale options are available as well if finances are a barrier.

What if I can't afford sessions?

We believe that all nutrition services should be accessible to all and therefore offer sliding scale rates to those who request them. You can find out more about our sliding scale options HERE.

Do you work with weight loss?

I understand that many people come to me with a long history of dieting, weight concerns, and a desire to lose weight, often shaped by personal experiences, medical messaging, and societal pressures. While I do not provide weight loss plans or prescribe diets, I deeply value body autonomy and honor each person's right to make decisions about their body.

I practice from a weight-inclusive, Health at Every Size® (HAES®)-aligned framework. This means I focus on supporting your overall well-being-including physical, emotional, and relational health-without using weight as the indicator of progress. Rather than focusing on changing your body, I work with you to build a more peaceful relationship with food, movement, and your body, wherever you are in your journey.

I'm here to hold space for your experiences and help you explore what feeling better in your body can mean, even if weight loss is a hope or curiosity for you. You don't have to leave those feelings at the door and you won't be judged for them. I just won't use intentional weight loss as a treatment goal.

I don't live in Colorado, can I still work with you?

Potentially, yes! Depending on state licensure laws, I can work with those in various states, including AZ, CO, CA, ME, NJ, NM, NY, VA. Contact me if you have questions!

How do I find out what my out of network benefits are if I'm self pay?

A list of all questions to ask your insurance company can be found on our Rates & Insurance page

Do you work with eating disorders?

Yes. I work with adults at various stages of eating disorder recovery, including those navigating restriction, bingeing, purging behaviors, ARFID, and long-standing disordered eating patterns.

Nutrition work is always tailored to where you are. Some clients are early in recovery and need more structure and support around adequacy and consistency. Others are working on stabilization, repair, or maintaining progress during stressful life seasons.

When appropriate, I collaborate with therapists, primary care providers, and other members of a care team to support safe, coordinated care.

How often will we meet?

Most clients meet weekly or biweekly, especially at the start. Frequency can shift over time depending on your needs, capacity, and goals.

We will check in periodically about what feels supportive and sustainable.

How long do clients typically work with you?

There's no set timeline. Many clients notice meaningful change over the course of about 6 months. For some, especially those working through eating disorders or long-standing patterns, support may span a longer period of time and evolve with different seasons of life.

We'll check in along the way to make sure the work continues to feel supportive and aligned with your needs.

The Crooked Carrot sits on the traditional lands of the Diné Bikéyah (Navajo), Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute), and Pueblos people, both past and present, now called Durango, Colorado. I acknowledge the wounds of the past in hopes of being able to heal for a better tomorrow.
